an online community for Native Instruments Maschine users worldwide...
I have trawled the internet for days looking for a template that will control Ableton the way I want. Only the Ableshine Mackie controller-Maschine variation comes close (by jb 2010 on th NI forum) but is seriously flawed.
I would like to be able to zip around Ableton without a mouse, edit controls to my own way of working with my own layout (which I can do with the editor, I know), but more tha anything else I would like to be able to control the GUI's and Drum Rack ( I actually care less about clip and scene launch as I build most of my traqcks within Maschine then export to Ableton).
Ableshine requires that the Mackie preference is selected in Ableton MIDI/Sync preferences as it uses Mackie Control Universal (MCU) rather than Control Changes. But Ableton doesn't recognise it for auto mapping so I cannot access the GUI's from Maschine. When I combine the Mackie pref with Maschine Controller pref...then none of the MCU's work.
Would I have to learn how to do scripting for Ableton? I'd much rather be making music, but if it means I can personlise my Maschine Controller than I would be prepared to give it a go cos in the long run it will save me time, plus I learn a new skill!
The internet isn't throwing any answers up I am completely baffled as I know this is a top grade controller, but if anyone finds out or knows a way then any pointers would be helpful.
Cheers. CC

Main thing is making sure you set your pads to match the notes of the drum racks. You can also set it to recognize pan, sends, track arming, and transport.

I really haven't a clue how I would go about that from scratch. Looking at the user configuration.text is a bit confusing I am not sure what it means to be honest :( I have never written script before!
The work jb2010 seems to have put in getting the Ableschine - Mackie configuration is very very close to how I want it. It just needs someone to iron out the bumps with GUI device select and Drum Rack not double hitting. I know that it must be something in the user configuration file that is wrong but I dont know where to start.

Permalink Reply by Cryptic Cut on August 29, 2011 at 10:36am Yeah I am looking at it but I cant make heads of it, not sure of I need Maschine in Global or not ....maybe I will scrap the ableschine variation and try like you say.
on the other hand check out
http://www.mooncaine.net/live_6_mackie_implementation_good_for_loop...
which is the Mackie Control Universal list of events you can control. You have to put Ableton into Mackie Control in MIDI/SYNC prefs and the In/out to Maschine Controller.
Ableschine Template
http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?p=711109#pos...
also has a pdf explaining what the maschine controller is set to ...and of course you can customise it using the MCU list.
Ableshine seems to have configured layers using button combination features which I am not sure how he's (or She's) managed. Maybe I am missing something and not doing something obvious? But I cant see what, as the user config list is just set -1 on all parameters. This is what I am finding confusing.
I hope all of that is clear :s

Permalink Reply by Cryptic Cut on August 29, 2011 at 11:00am Yeah there is a lot to it. Half of which I don't need tbh, but I guess these things need to cover all bases. The self teaching lark (uk slang ;) messing about!!heh ) throws up a load of curve balls.
Permalink Reply by Cryptic Cut on August 29, 2011 at 12:45pm Well just in case any one else has any similar problems using Ableshine or how it works I'll post what I discover...it may help
I have resorted to reading the 18+pages of Maschine Templates on the N.I Forum (seriously, can they not split that into subsections? i.e templates for Ableton, Templates for Logic, Templates for Reaper etc) anyway I have found that the Ableschine template doesn't use auto mapping (which is what has really been confusing to me as I keep expecting the blue hand to turn up so I know which GUI I'm on). It instead has a a deeper level of combination buttons. I have to press Maschine's Control+Select Device 1-6 ( you can only choose up to 6 plug ins per channel :s) then scroll through all the parameters with D.Bank (which are all labelled btw, something that auto map doesn't do, which is handy). Though I do use Audio Effects Rack quite a bit for my own NY Compression Rack I've built, (amongst other multi-band compression racks) but it's not selecting within Audio effects rack at the moment...just the Macros.
well that's half the battle. Now if only Drum rack would behave.
Permalink Reply by Cryptic Cut on August 30, 2011 at 5:28pm Aha I have found the problem with Ableschine & Drum Rack. Drum Rack in Ableschine keeps double hitting because the Hit and the Pressure control are set to different Midi channels AND Different notes. I am not sure why this is perhaps the original but I have taken the liberty and re assigned all Pressure pads assigned to the same note as the Hit.
Ableschine RES Append

I have made a few variations to the original Ableschine template mainly on the Navigation Page (Group G) but its pretty straight forward to change if you use this Mackie Control Universal reference chart
http://www.mooncaine.net/live_6_mackie_implementation_good_for_loop...
make sure Ableton is in Mackie Control mode in MIDI / Sync Preference and Maschine COntroller is selected for input and output and thatthe midi ports are set to input = Track & Remote and Output = Remote
I forgot to append Impulse. those still double trigger on midi channel 6 and other notes which you will have to change yourself if you want to control and use impulse,
Hope it works for you all. CC
