MaschineMusic.com

an online community for Native Instruments Maschine users worldwide...

Hey Guys, I was just wondering how many more Maschine users would like to see MP3 importing as a feature. I sample, flip, and chop a lot of my music collection, which is now all in iTunes. (I gave vinyl up a long time ago), and although this is a copyright issue, do you all think NI will include this as a feature down the road. I bring this up because I bought Maschine for it's workflow advantages, as well as other reasons, and converting mp3s to wav/aiff is a pain, and really gets in the way of my workflow. My solution at the moment is I have transfered some of my digging tracks to my iPod, and sample into Maschine, just like you would if you were using a turntable, as having double copies of mp3s is not a place I wanna go. Sorry for the long ass post but I wanted to make sure my reasons for wanting this feature were clear. Looks like a nice growing community here, hope to see it grow. Big props to Saint Joe. Peace.

I think mp3 sampling would be dope. I suggest to folks that they use the ipod/phone method to sample into it as it's a lot quicker in most cases and more "familiar" than converting wavs or trying to figure out how to stream audio into Maschine. Since most have their itunes and ipod synced...

But I think it would be a good addition for sure, especially since many folks have their whole collection in mp3 format already
And to have some similar request it would be great to have lossless format such as FLAC and good better quality than mp3 format like AAC that would be natively supported by maschine as sample format.

What you think about it ??

Cheers from France and read you soon.

could be cool, but I don't see them supporting some of the other formats that aren't as popular, I would imagine mp3 format will come though
I don't see why all formats can't be implemented, we all have different libraries. Plus it would be good to see sample companies release their libraries in Maschine format. I think there is a big enough market, and it will only grow.

I agree on Maschine format, but they need to allow saving sounds and kits with the samples first, then it would open up for third party development.

as far as flac, ogg vorbis, etc...I just don't think they are popular enough across the board, not saying I oppose it, but I would expect mp3 support, I don't expect other compressed file support like flac, aac, ogg vorbis, mp4, etc... there's just too many compression formats.

wave and mp3 are pretty standard, and aiff

then maybe some sampler formats and such
Hi ! guys
i follow you both and your comments and you are right !!

But remember that Ableton live (via decoding cache) supports a lot of formats.

In case of third party library and soundbanks, Mp3 would be great addition to maschine format.

To conclude glad to see that there's reactivity on the forum.

I have a project that deals with enhancements request.

I have imagine the specs of maschine ver 5.0 (excel file) would you be interested to do the same
the main idea was to bring maschine a lot of best features from all kind of gears but every time in a direct, fluent and musical workflow that is maschine gold standart.
exemple : (auto looping with several algorythms), rendering of a sound+fx used in a pattern into a new free sound slot, a Mute Pattern Track, addition of a step LFO (+ designer), arpegiator mode of note repeat

these a just a few examples of my global file

let me know if you are interested (and remenber it's just for fun and to make things go deep and musical)

ciao guys
Hey Frakktale,

Ohhh I'm gonna have to put some thought into this, I'd obviously like to see some time-stretching ability, and VST/AU instrument, and effect support, and maybe even 4 or 8 audio tracks to complete the software. Doubling up the amount of groups, multiple samples per pad at different velocity levels. I really like the software side of Maschine, but to think ahead to version 5, wow I think by then I would pretty much like it to be a fully fledged DAW/audio production workstation by then. Thankfully Native Instruments are pretty good at evolving a product, as I've been a user of Traktor DJ software and have seen this evolve into a powerhouse of features over the years.

But definately gonna have to give this more thought.
What am I thinking man, I want a soundcard built into the hardware!!!!!!!!!

Hi it's just a way to say that with version 5 we don't want it immediatly and let time to NI to give priority to what they feel urgent and important regarding to their roadmap? It's a way to dream of what could be a perfect Maschine in several year ( let's be crazy and request features that would transform maschine into a Beast !!)
let's dream of our perfect maschine and by collecting all the good wishes we will be able to define realistic request to NI (perhaps if we have a very solid list of enhancements)

read you soon

Cool, I think mp3 import is a different request than third party library support, mp3 is more of an audio file format than a native sampler format.

As for other requests etc...I say start a new discussion for it? heck start a discussion for each feature you'd like to see so we can all comment on it.
Here is Ski Beatz showing an easy way to sample mp3s into Maschine using Ableton.

yeah, that's pretty much how anyone samples in a daw, but it's cool for folks that hadn't thought about it. I think people want to open mp3s directly in Maschine though, especially those that don't use a daw to open maschine in.
