Permalink Reply by saintjoe on January 17, 2012 at 8:30am I'm pretty sure it's intuitive, I've been using a few different apps and actually being able to put your hands on your waveform to edit is nice man. I held out for a long time but always knew I wanted one since I first went to namm in 2010, I saw all the stuff for iphon (ipad wasn't out yet).
Once I saw the ipad, I knew it would be something nice. Like you say, it's similar to when laptops/computers first got popular. It's really cool, I hope akai does it right with this controller for it, as it looks nice.

Permalink Reply by djdesignz on January 17, 2012 at 12:32pm If you're into iOS, then this could be a game changer with regard to portability, and capturing musical ideas on the go!
Complete with a vintage-inspired channel strip on every channel, a dedicated master channel strip, VST plug-ins engineered by renowned makers such as PSPaudioware, Overloud, Fab Filter and Drumagog, and support for Dropbox, Soundcloud, AAF, and MP3, Auria truly raises the bar for recording and mixing on the iPad.
Wavemachine Labs is leading the push to standardize VST's for iOS which could be huge (except you probably have to buy the iOS versions of the VST's you already own... mo mooola!) If they standardize a way (that is universally adopted on iOS) to share files between apps, using iPad as a portable sketchpad (at least 4 me) and using Aria to do some editing and sequencing along with iMaschine would definitely be... musically beneficial!
Hopefully NI will release an iMaschine for iPad that will provide support for iOS VST's and allow for some sort of in-app sharing of files without connecting to iTunes or the puter!
Peace!
Permalink Reply by DJ Rock Well on January 17, 2012 at 12:36pm I'm hoping/assuming that in the same way Akai's Synthstation worked with other apps like nanostudio, etc, MPC Fly will work with Beatmaker 2, Garageband, etc.
For me at least, the biggest reservation I had with the iPad when it first dropped was the lack of more physical control over apps - like the the assumption seemed to be that as you've got a touch screen, why would you need keys and pads. For any kind of performance, I'm more of a pads/faders/keys/knobs kind of person, but I'll gladly use that touch screen for all the more mundane tasks. Chopping samples with a touch screen sounds like a great idea.
Generally, I think touch screens will become ever more part of computing in the near future. My DJing partner is currently looking at combining a Mac Mini with a touch screen and the possibilities are looking very exciting indeed.
Permalink Reply by saintjoe on January 17, 2012 at 1:44pm exactly, the touch screen for chopping samples, etc, browsing patches, things like this...is really nice.
I bought an lpk 25 to go with my ipad, works great in beat maker. I'm hoping the fly is universal core midi as well so it works with other software and not just the mpc
with the fly and a mini keyboard, that's a really powerful mobile setup. I will say, I'm impressed by the usefulness of some of these ipad apps man, really good tools.
Permalink Reply by djdesignz on January 23, 2012 at 9:10am The MPC Fly software (being developed by Retronyms) looks good as a standalone!
MPC Fly Standalone The turntable sampler at 3:19 is a SWEET feature!
Peace!
